Symptoms of Insect + Bug Bites

While most bug bites are only mildly irritating, some symptoms merit a visit to an urgent care. At Live Urgent Care, we recommend treatment for bug and insect bites that have any of the following symptoms.

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Swelling of the lips, throat, eyelids, or face
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Burning or aching
  • Persistent redness at the site

Anaphylaxis is estimated at 3% in adults and 0.4–0.8% in children.

Most bug bite reactions include redness and swelling at the site. If the redness does not fade over 1-2 days or gets worse, a visit to an urgent care is warranted.

Our providers can prescribe a variety of topical creams and antibiotics to help alleviate any infection. If the bite is suspected to cause a more serious illness, hospitalization and close monitoring may be necessary.
