5 Safety Tips To Make Halloween Less Spooky

A healthy Halloween is a happy Halloween. And to help keep your family safe, Live Urgent Care has put together 5 helpful Halloween safety tips.

Before your kids start trick-or-treating, reviewing these simple Halloween safety tips can make the experience safer for them and less stressful for you.

Cross All Streets Safely

Halloween leads to more pedestrians on the streets and sidewalks than nearly any other day. Unfortunately, that also means pedestrian fatalities rise by over 40% on Halloween.

To keep your children safe, make sure they only cross the street on marked street corners staying in crosswalks. Instruct them to look both ways before crossing the street. If your children are not old enough to do this responsibly, take them by the hand to make sure they cross safely.

Check For Maximum Visibility

With so much hustle and bustle during trick-or-treating, this Halloween safety tip works in two directions.

First, make sure your children are visible to drivers. Consider brightly-colored costumes for maximum visibility or add reflective strips to costumes. This gives drivers the best chance to see your child.

Second, make sure your child’s vision is not obstructed by their costume. Masks can prevent your child from seeing curbs and other obstacles. These add up to falling hazards. Test your child’s range of vision before they head out trick-or-treating.

Accompany Young Children

Halloween is a day where kids take steps towards independence, but it is important to not give your child more responsibility than they can handle. A good rule of thumb is to accompany children age 12 and younger. This ensures they cross streets safely and makes sure they avoid suspicious adults.

Examine All Candy Received

This Halloween safety tip mainly occurs after trick-or-treating, but eating your candy is a big part of the Halloween fun. Before letting your kids dig in, make sure to inspect all Halloween candy. If any wrappers are missing or anything seems out of place, discard that piece of candy.

Make an Accident Plan

For all your planning and preparation, accidents are a part of life. Make sure you have a plan for how you will treat any incident. Bringing first aid supplies will make it easy to treat minor cuts and scrapes. And having water and snacks on hand will keep your child hydrated and energized.

For bigger incidents, it is important to know where your nearest healthcare provider is. At Live Urgent Care, we offer walk-in treatment from 8am to 8pm on Halloween.

Our urgent care centers provide injury care, illness treatment, and fast care for all of your pressing needs. Complete your Halloween plan by finding the location nearest you for the safest Halloween possible.
